Gardening Blunders You Want to Avoid

People that garden understand that it is important to have a plan of action along with the enthusiasm to do it. Proper research always needs to be done when you garden to make sure certain mistakes are not made. As a rule of thumb, always be prepared for the worst. If you’re not sure where the best place to plant something is, how much water it needs, how much space and other factors, make sure you find out.

Plants need a certain amount of space to remain healthy. The space requirements of each plant is a little different, so this is something you should investigate before choosing a location. Don’t let the small size of your plants fool you when you buy them. Find out exactly how much room each plant needs. One of the situations that can occur when plants are crowded is that the roots of the different plants become entangled. If you don’t have a lot of room for a garden, you can use container gardening or simply limit the variety of plants you plant. You can find out how much room a plant requires from the nursery where you buy your bedding plants or from the information given on the packet of seeds. With experience you will learn that certain seeds require certain depths at which they should be planted. This one factor can prevent your plants from growing properly. In order for your plant to grow to fruition, the most important thing you need to do is to plant at the appropriate level in the soil; regardless of the soil and compost make up. When a seed is planted too shallow, it fails to receive the nourishment that is provided by the soil. When you cover your seed with too much soil, your seed may not get the required amount of sun to sprout, or may end up getting too much water. In general, the drier the soil and the local climate is, the deeper you should plant your seeds. The bigger the actual seed is; the further down it will need to go. Always go by the recommended planting instructions when they are available.

Don’t make the mistake of planting your garden in poor soil. This will almost guarantee that your plants won’t thrive. The health of your garden depends on the health of the soil you use. Make it a practice to check the pH of your soil before you decide what to plant. This will tell you if your soil tends to be acidic or alkaline. Gardening center, or just about any store that sells seeds and flats of plants in the spring, will have pH Test Kits. Once you know the condition of your soil and what corrections you need to make, you can add fertilizer or buy good gardening soil from a local nursery. Using compost or fertilizer on a regular basis will help you maintain the health of your soil and ensure that your plants are well nourished. Once you recognize them, most bloopers in the garden are fairly easy to steer clear of. Lack of research prior to planting is often the reason that inexperienced gardeners make mistakes. Often times, you can find the information you need, as it is printed on the packet of seeds you purchased. Providing you do your research when you want to know something, you should not have too many gaffes.
